Steel City of Odisha Rourkela located in the northern border Odisha. It is third largest city of Odisha and is located at a distance of 340 km from the capital Bhubaneswar. The City is surrounded by a range of hills and encircled by rivers. This city is also known as Ispat Nagar. Rourkela is selected as smart city in the third phase of smart city list. It is ranked in 12th position among all the 27 cities in the list.

Rourkela Township is divided into two separate townships under as Steel Township and Civil Township. The quarters’ colony of Rourkela Steel Plant having 21 sectors is known as Steel Township and the other part is called Civil Township. Rourkela has tropical climate. Internationally Rourkela is famous for iron and steel trade.

Rourkela and its nearby areas are rich in iron-ore hence a steel plant is situated in Rourkela. Bolani and Barsuan are the two most prominent mines near Rourkela. Rourkela is situated in a hilly region. At Vedvyas, Rourkela the Koel and Sankha rivers meet and flow as a single river called Brahmani.

Tourist Attractions in Rourkela

Vedavyas is situated in Rourkela at the unite place of three rivers Sankha, Koel and underground Saraswati.

Hanuman Vatika is another tourist attraction in Rourkela. This place is well known for the tall Lord Hanuman statue. The height of the statue is 75 feet.

Deoghar is another tourist attraction 3km ahead from Darjeeng. It is a village located at the river bank.

Vaishnodevi Temple is located at the hill top. Goddess Kali, Goddess Laxmi and Goddess Saraswati are the chief deities of this temple.

Ghogar is another picnic spot located 27km away from Rourkela. This place is landed on River Ib. There is a naturally formed Shivalinga, made of black granite.

Khandhadhar Falls is the fourth highest waterfall of India located at Rourkela. The height of the waterfall is 244 meter.

Darjeeng is a beautiful picnic spot near Rourkela. It is a small village 45 km away from Rourkela and is a popular tourist spot for its soothing landscape.

Mrig Vihar is a popular attraction and houses numerous deer and is located close to the famous Jubilee Park. Travelers can also have a view of beautiful musical fountains, situated at this place.
